Installing Docker

Estimated time: 5 minutes

As a tool that is widely-used, installation is a breeze. By downloading the appropriate installer, you can quickly get it up and running. The installers are available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

  • Linux: the steps for Linux vary based on your distribution. Select and follow along the right one for you.
  • Apple: be sure to select the right version based on your process (Apple DSilicon vs Intel)
  • Windows: similarly, choose the right version based on processor.
For those Arch users out there, an experimental package exists but it not tested or verified by Docker. Don't worry — we did.

Once installed, you could poke around in the GUI, but you didn't come here for that. Let's start playing around in the CLI to understand the major moving pieces of Docker.
